Update #124 No time to waste

Hello again, faithful backers.

It seems our slated programmer is proving to be behind schedule in joining us… He will potentially be off of his current project and able to join us by the end of the year…

I would like to reiterate at this time that we are dedicated to seeing this project through, despite delays.

I spoke with Hiro and we have decided we just cannot afford to wait any longer. Our guy may still join us but we need to make some progress now.

I am putting out a call to any Unreal programmers who may be able to help us out. We are, of course, offering compensation but involvement would be contingent upon showing previous work, portfolio, etc. and interviews. We have a few dev friends we are hoping can help source but we would be happy to consider any recommendations our backer community could point to. Comment here or send a message with any viable leads.

Additionally, I will be hitting up the Unreal forums and making a posting there soon:

We really need programmers with experience because we do not have time for someone to learn on the fly. We have waited too long already.

We know there are many of you who will support us in this decision and we need your continued encouragement to do our best and put out the game that we envisioned. We WILL get programmers on this project and we WILL complete this game.

Thank you.

First, a few updates!

I didn’t see their names on the list but are Kevin Penkin and Tomoki Miyoshi still on the project?

Kevin is no longer involved but Tomoki is still involved.

Do any of the Project Phoenix artists have pixiv or Deviant Art accounts?

Unfortunately, no.

Is Project Phoenix the final name?

No, but you will certainly hear about the new name (once we have it) here first.

Update on the programming situation: We should be able to nail down contracts by late October and then we can begin scheduling out the rest of the work.

Here are some finished models from Act I as rendered in Unity. While the models are complete, everything else is not, such as lighting, textures, etc. and obviously also no animations or effects. They will also ultimately be rendered in Unreal 4 which may or may not make much difference in appearance.

(Annnnnd you will need to hit the link to see the rest…

Recent Updates

Hi all, new PR guy Stuart here. Sorry I missed to post on the News section of the site. I made sure to hit the forums and chat. This is all new to me.

Here are the recent updates. Hope to get everyone to weigh in so I can have a good sense of the direction things need to take.

The Luck o’ the Emerald Isles and Project Phoenix’s Inner Workings

Hope everyone enjoyed their St. Patrick’s Day a few days ago! As you might expect, Ruffles spent a large part of that day traversing Azurgarde’s Emerald Isle and exploring its hidden caches to check upon her leprechaun allies who have been hiding their treasures from orcish raiders. In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, we hope that many of you were able to enjoy a nice relaxing beverage (adult or otherwise) and that you’ll be ready for the adventures to come.

And speaking of those adventures, here’s what we’ll have in store for you as we approach our goal of getting the Alpha released. First of all, we’ve decided to release some development videos so that all of you can get a better understanding of what we’re working on. Do keep in mind that because you’ll be mostly looking at programming, it’s not going to be all whiz and bang. We’ll be looking at the game’s guts, so to speak, but we’d still like you to follow along all the same. With that, here are Hiro’s words about what you’ll be seeing next:

“Hi, everyone! We wanted to give you a better look at what Pascal, our programmer, is working on. Please note: the video is not here to show off how great the game looks, but rather, to show what we’re coding. This means that the visuals, animations and effects will not look good, nor are they intended to be the final product. Also, the test is very preliminary, this is not the final version of stealth and stealth only works with other functioning parts like the Threat System which isn’t in place yet. Finally, please remember that we’re working from the ground up on the UNREAL Engine so we’re going back to square one. So without further ado, check out the video of Pascal’s hard work!”

So thanks again for coming with us on this long journey. As an additional note, Developer-level backers will start receiving more dev side information over the coming months, so if you’ve pledged at that level, stay tuned!

Updated Release Schedule!

Hi everyone,

We had a lot of success last weekend on the Google Hangout. If you came in late or did not get a chance to attend the hangout you can view the entire thing HERE.

Now, onto the update, as we stated over the weekend we have sent out the emails to all the backers who have characters to create. This is a very exciting time for us, because our artists finally get to interact with the backers to create their ultimate character.

Also, our director Hiroaki Yura will be at E3 so for the Phoenix Level backers who are attending the event this year, he will either shout you a beer and coffee and talk to you about the project and answer any questions you may have. Please note, that Project Phoenix will not be featured in this year’s E3 as Hiroaki will be attending the event for a different game.

We also, have an updated release schedule for everyone. It is as follows:

Alpha (First Act) – June 2015

Alpha Public Release – September 2015 (Tokyo Game Show)
Beta (All Acts) – December 2015

Beta Public Release – March 2016

E3 Release / Localization and Bug Test – June 2016

Please note that this is the schedule for now, we may run into delays but we will definitely keep communications open with all our backers if further delays are to be expected. We are only concerned with delivering the best with what we have and time is what will make the difference in quality of the final product.

We will be hosting another Google Hangout towards the end of the month. Although, we do not have a date and time set yet, but keep an eye out on the updates for more information. Come prepared with questions for Q&A.

Also, Happy Belated V-day! I really like this picture *-*

Poll Results!

Hello friends,

I know we’ve had a bit of a break and there has been some news surrounding Under The Dog’s changes, but we want to ensure you nothing on UTD will affect Project Phoenix going forward.

Now, onto the real update. We have received your requests from the store poll and the top 4 were all pretty close.

1st: Figurines- Currently we just offer the Sylrianah figurine and we’re looking at adding more to the store

2nd: Plushies- PLUSHIES! Everyone loves plushies!

3rd: Soundrack- Project Phoenix Soundtrack as a stand-alone item in the store

4th: Artbook- Similar to the Soundtrack. We will offer the Artbook as a separate item on the Phoenix store.

Now there is no set price or time window before we get this live on the site, but rest assured you will be notified when we get it up and running.

Also, next week we’ll be posting applications for recruitment on the project, so if you have experience in creating a game keep your eye out for the next update. More information to come next week, but for now if you have any specific questions feel free to contact Hiro on Twitter @HiroakiYura.

Store Poll!

attention gainer 101
Hey guys,

I hope everyone is having an amazing start to the year! In this week’s update, we finalize the items you want to see in the Phoenix store. Also, if you’ve missed the phoenix hangout, we’re working on a voiceover walkthrough of the Vertical Cut that should be available next week on our YouTube.

This week, we have set up a poll on our forums, highlighting some of your suggestions we have seen over the past few updates. In order to gain a better idea of the merchandise you want to see in the Phoenix store, you can vote for your favorite HERE or on the right side of the front page.

That’s all for this week’s update. See you next week when we update you on the poll’s progress!

Phoenix Store Upgrades

Hey guys,

In this week’s update, we discuss revamping features on the site, as well as, polling all backers to get a better grip on what items YOU want to see in the store.

Alright, first things first. Forum member Alkorin has set up a new “Forgot Username” function, so if you ever find yourself a bit too Ruffles, have no fear we’ve obtained the solution.

Update #103 Forgot Username

Following the trend of site revamps, the art team has given us a new store logo to brighten up the front page.

update #103 Store

Now, we can’t just upgrade the store logo without adding new products, right? That’s where you come in. A few forum members have started a topic discussing what kinds of things they’d like to see in the Phoenix Store. We love the ideas we’re seeing and want to see discussion on an even broader scale. Please comment on the post HERE and tell us what you would like to see in the store, so next week we can trim down the list and do a grand poll for the most popular items.

That’s all for this week, remember to let us know which products you want to see and be sure to thank user Alkorin and the art team for all their hard work. See you next week.

Happy New Year!

Dear Project Phoenix backers,

I hope you had a great holiday season and a Happy New Year! We hope you had a fulfilling year in 2014, and all the best to come in 2015.

We are entering an exciting stage in our development for Project Phoenix. Our aim is to make the best possible game with our skills that we’ve accumulated through our experiences with your help. Throughout the year, our community team will reach out for feedback from the backers and we hope to hear as much opinion to make the game even better than we have imagined. Please bear with us to make Project Phoenix the best it can be.

Again, thanks for all your support and patience with us.

Best wishes,

Hiroaki Yura
